다큐멘터리와 에세이 영화에서 (비)정상성

건강과 행복에 대한 과학적/의학적 이슈들을 다루는 시네마의 혹은 에세이필름의 언어에 대해 점검해 본다. 가령, 가시적 증상이나 일상적 언어 표현으로 진단되기 어려운 정신건강을 다루는 정신건강의학과 배경의 의학 다큐멘터리, 특히 영상 미디어에서 여성의 건강에 대해 논의할 수 있는 표현법을 찾아보거나 실험해보는 데에 참조할 만한 영상물들을 살펴 본다.

This lecture examines the languages in cinema or essay film that deal with scientific and medical issues about health and happiness, for example, a medical documentary about medical science dealing with mental health that is difficult to diagnose with visible symptoms or everyday language expressions. Specifically, we will examine videos that can work as references for our search for, and experimentations with, expressions in the visual media that can discuss women's health.

중앙대학교 영화미디어연구 조교수. 뉴욕대학교 영화연구 박사. 저서로 Between Film, Video, and the Digital: Hybrid Moving Images in the Post-media Age (Bloomsbury Academic, 2016), 번역서로 [북해에서의 항해: 포스트-매체 조건 시대의 예술 (로잘린드 크라우스, 현실문화, 2016)], [질 들뢰즈의 시간기계 (데이비드 로먼 노도윅, 그린비, 2005)]가 있으며 실험영화 및 비디오, 갤러리 영상 설치작품, 디지털 예술, 실험적 다큐멘터리, 현대영화이론 및 매체미학 등에 대한 논문들을 Screen, Film Quarterly, Millennium Film Journal, Animation: An Interdisciplinary Journal 등의 저널들 및 Simultaneous Worlds: Global Science Fiction Cinema (University of Minnesota Press, 2015), Global Art Cinema (Oxford University Press, 2010), Taking Place: Location and the Moving Image (University of Minnesota Press, 2011)등의 연구서에 출간했다.

Ji-Hoon Kim (Professor, Department of Film, Chung-Ang University)
Ji-Hoon Kim is an assistant professor of the Film Studies Department, Chung-Ang University. He received his Ph.D. in Cinema Studies from the New York University, and authored the book “Between Film, Video, and the Digital: Hybrid Moving Images in the Post-media Age” (Bloomsbury Academic, 2016), and translated “[A Voyage on the North Sea: Art in the Age of the Post-Medium Condition]” (Rosalind Krauss, Hyunsilbook, 2016)], and Gilles Deleuze’s “Time Machine” (David Norman Rodowick, Greenbee, 2005). His works include experimental cinema and videos, video installation arts, digital arts, and experimental documentary films. His research papers on contemporary film theory and media aesthetics were published in journals and monographs such as Screen, Film Quarterly, Millennium Film Journal, Animation: An Interdisciplinary Journal and Simultaneous Worlds: Global Science Fiction Cinema (University of Minnesota Press, 2015), Global Art Cinema (Oxford University Press, 2010), Taking Place: Location and the Moving Image (University of Minnesota Press, 2011).
